East New Britain Province SEZ

East New Britain has hospitable people, fertile land, rich culture and all the war relics. It has the war relics, the Japanese barges and caves, volcano, hot spring and the package is much better than those that are offered in any other tourism destinations, but why have we not reached our potential? It comes down to leadership, vision, unity between the National and Provincial Government to work together with a target to come up a vehicle to unleash ENB’s potential.

Karamui SEZ in Simbu Province

Karamui is located south of the province of Simbu in Papua New Guinea (PNG). It is a remote district with no road connections, accessible only by air. The area is situated in mid-montane tableland surrounded by cliffs and rugged terrains. Karamui has the largest fertile arable land in the province, dominated largely by thick layer of volcanic top soils. The development of the Karamui tableland will transform the people of Karamui, the province and the country at large. Agriculture is the mainstay for the economy of Karamui. Apart from farming fresh fruits and vegetables, the main cash crops are cocoa, coffee and vanilla. Other noteworthy crops grown include rice and cardamon. Agricultural commodities produced are airfreighted out of Karamui by small aircrafts from its 15 airstrips at high costs. There is also no cheap and reliable source of electricity in Karamui. The National Government of PNG and the Simbu Provincial Government, in collaboration with the Karamui Salt Nomane District Development Authority and the Karamui Local Level Government, are undertaking a feasibility study for the development of an agriculture Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Karamui.
